Renia: A Holocaust Memoir

Table of Contents

Icouldn’t have written this memoir without help, above all the help of Morris Wolfe. His skill as a writer and his sensitivity as a person made the process of turning my memories into a book a satisfying, if often a difficult, experience. He also acted as project co-ordinator, guiding the text and photographs through every stage of the process. Thank you, Morris.

I’d also like to thank a number of people who helped make this book possible. Some years ago Rick Archbold made me a first rough outline. During the writing he acted as general editor of the text, offering constructive criticism. Finally, he oversaw the printing and binding of the finished book. Ben Wolfe worked wonders with his computer, choosing the typeface, designing the layout and improving the quality of photographs and documents that sometimes seemed too scratched to be useable. Rosemary Hillary transcribed many hours of audio tape. Menya Wolfe drew the map that allows you to follow the movements of my family during the war years, 1939-1945. Thank you all.

The people who’ve helped me and my family along life’s way are too numerous to mention. Some of them are in this book, but many others offered support in one way or another. I’d like to thank them here with all my heart.

Finally, I want to acknowledge the three people who wouldn’t let me alone until this book was written, my dear children Rick, Eve and Dave. Without their prodding I would never even have gotten started and without their support the work would never have been finished. Thank you. I love you.
